Lamborghini Super car Sells Out For First Year

While economic uncertainty has many consumers holding off on buying new vehicles, the exotic-car market seems to ask, “What uncertainty?”

Automobili Lamborghini SpA, which earlier this month unveiled its 217-mph Aventador LP 700-4 supercar at the Geneva Motor Show, says it already has orders for more than a year’s worth of the car’s production.

The Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, car maker says it began taking orders during customer previews last year and continues to attract potential buyers through its microsite, where shoppers can configure the car to their liking. Lamborghini says the car’s base price is €255,000, or about
$360,000.

 Lamborghini LP 700-4 Aventador

The Aventador is the sixth generation Lamborghini V12 model and the most powerful with 700 horsepower. The company says the new carbon-fiber-intensive car weighs 199 pounds less than the Murcielago it replaces. But at 3,472 pounds, it still weighs almost as much as a 1988 Cadillac Seville. Still, the weight won’t hold it back. The Aventador can accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 kilometers per hour) in 2.9 seconds.

Still, with the exotic market in bloom the Aventador will have a lot of competition from other new models including the Pagani Huayra and Ferrari FF, also unveiled in Geneva, and the Audi R8 GT.

Deputies: $600,000 swiped from Sarasota woman to buy Lamborghini

Sarasota, Florida - A Bay area man is locked up after he's accused of swindling nearly $600,000 from an elderly woman he was supposed to be taking care of. Detectives say among the things he spent her money on was a 2007 Lamborghini convertible.97-year-old Depaulis "Anita" Seidel and 69-year-old Joseph "Pino" Cirillo were roommates in an upscale gated community in the Boca Royale Golf and Country Club, which is located in the Englewood area of Sarasota County. But a neighbor, who didn't want to be identified, says, "It's really sad. He's sick and he needs to be in the hospital." She says Cirillo shouldn't be locked up. She says he needs help.

Related Story: Elderly exploiting the elderly? But the Sarasota County Sheriff's office paints a much different picture saying Cirillo moved into Anita Seidel's home 8 years ago as her roommate, eventually became her caretaker, and Seidel eventually granted Cirillo power of attorney for her since she has Alzheimer's.The neighbor says during those years, "Well he took complete care of her. He kept the house clean. He was an excellent cook. They would have company over there and entertain."She says the problems only started when Seidel left Cirillo alone in the house when she was admitted into a nursing home in June. The neighbor adds, "He was bi-polar and she had him taking his medicine. But then she became ill and wasn't aware of things and he hasn't had his medicine and he has changed completely in the past year."But detectives say several months before Seidel went into that nursing home, Cirillo started transferring money from her accounts into his Bank of America account. Money investigators say he used a portion of in July to buy an orange 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo 2-door convertible from Suncoast Motorsports at 5005 S. Tamiami Trail. It cost $169,900.Cirillo is also accused of writing checks to other people off his account with Seidel's money and without her permission.Detectives do say Cirillo experiences delusions saying he's told people he's a surgeon, member of the CIA and the mob. They say he even told Seidel's family, who live in Italy, that Seidel died at a doctor's appointment and he brought her back to life by massaging her legs. The neighbor adds, "I would rather see him in the hospital or something you know, I feel sorry for him."But a lot of people feel sorry for the victim who is out of a lot of money. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says due to Cirillo's unstable mental state and the amount moved from Seidel's account, Lutheran Services was granted emergency guardianship over Seidel. The organization is working with an attorney to try to recover her money. But for now the sports car is parked in her garage and could be declared property of her estate.Meanwhile, Cirillo has been charged with one count of Exploitation of the Elderly.
